LAMIERA 2023, Milan

From 10 to 13 May, we were present at Lamiera, the international event dedicated to the sheet metal forming machine tool industry and innovative technologies.

Machines, sheet metal working equipment and the wide and varied offer of robots, automation and enabling technologies, in which Romani Components is included with its offer of spare parts for linear axes and motion transmission.

  • 19,000 trade visitors.
  • Added to this were 4,000 visitors from made in steel.

The results of the 22nd edition of LAMIERA, the international exhibition dedicated to technologies for cutting, deformation and processing of sheet metal, tubes and profiles, which took place from Wednesday 10 to Saturday 13 May at Fiera Milano Rho, were decidedly positive.

The only exhibition appointment in Italy dedicated exclusively to the sector, LAMIERA has become over the years one of the most important fairs in the international panorama of sector events, also thanks to the move from Bologna to Milan in 2017. The protagonists of the exhibition, which occupied a total area of 40,000 square metres, were around 400 companies, 27% foreign, representing 22 countries .

Promoted by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, the association of Italian manufacturers of machine tools, robots and automation, and organised by CEU-CENTRO ESPOSIZIONI UCIMU, LAMIERA returned, exceptionally, one year after the previous edition, which had been postponed by 12 months due to the health emergency.

In order to recover, therefore, its traditional positioning in odd-numbered years, the event did not respect the traditional biennial nature that distinguishes it, despite this, the results collected, both in terms of exhibitors and visits, are more than satisfactory.

Barbara Colombo, President of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, commented: “We are very satisfied with the results obtained because the event, which took place just 12 months after the previous one, not only confirmed the results of the last edition but, for some indicators, did even better”.

Alfredo Mariotti, Director of UCIMU, added: “The technology that characterises this sector has a two-year innovation cycle, which is why LAMIERA, just like all other international exhibition events dedicated to the sector, must be biennial. However, the fact that companies have confirmed their participation in this edition, which is anomalous in terms of its temporary nature, demonstrates the value of this event, which has been able to grow from edition to edition and which can count on a market, the Italian one, that is decidedly interesting: the second most important in the world, on a par with the United States, and the first in Europe”.

The number of professional operators registered over the 4 days of the fair was around 19,000. More than 4,000 operators from Made in Steel who expressed an interest in also visiting LAMIERA must be added to the total count. The agreement signed with Made in Steel (which was held partially concurrently in the halls next door) and which envisaged free passage from one event to the other therefore produced very interesting results.

“Very interesting contacts… excellent trade fair… we did not expect such a large number of visitors… brilliant result and in some ways unexpected, given that the event was held a year after the previous edition… we also received unexpected orders… quality visitors, very interesting and qualified foreign delegations…’ were some of the comments received at the exhibitors’ stands, which were 15% more than at the 2022 edition.

Of the total number of visitors, 7.5% were from abroad, representing 67 nations. The most numerous delegations came from: Albania, Austria, China, Croatia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Holland, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tunisia and Turkey.

In the corridors of the two pavilions of the fair, on the 13th and 15th, among the many visitors there were also about fifty foreign operators from Egypt, India, Morocco, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Turkey, the USA, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam, invited as part of the traditional incoming initiative organised by UCIMU in collaboration with MAECI and ICE-Agenzia, joined by an autonomous delegation of over 30 Turkish users from the Manisa area. ICE-Agenzia also oversaw the creation of the area dedicated to start-ups.

Enriching the exhibition proposal was the programme of about 40 meetings, proposed by LAMIALAMIERA, the arena promoted by FONDAZIONE UCIMU and realised with the contribution of the Lombardy Region. Digitisation and sustainability were among the topics most discussed during the conferences held by the event organisers and exhibitors.

A total of 800 operators took part in the events hosted by the LAMIALAMIERA Arena, in addition to the 3,500 remotely connected thanks to the live streaming activated throughout the period.

The event was also attended by about a hundred journalists and about a thousand students who, invited as part of the UCIMU Academy initiative, took part, accompanied by their professors, in free visits guided by tutors from the association engaged in illustrating the latest technologies representing the sector’s international production at the stands.

The interest of the manufacturing world in the event is also measured by the lively activity on digital channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube). LAMIERA’s social community now counts 7,680 registered followers.
